Sloane Down (they/themme) is a multifaceted creator with a penchant for photography, filmmaking, and design. Sloane had a camera in their hands from an early age. In 2017, their lifelong hobby turned professional as they honed their commercial skills working for a small media company. As a production assistant they learned everything from set dressing, lighting, copywriting, wardrobe styling, editing, and what it takes to pull off a production seamlessly. In 2019, they formed their own photography business focusing initially on portraits and then turned towards fashion, beauty, and editorial photography. Blending photography with their love of design is a true marriage of their creative passions. Sloane also holds a certificate in fashion design from Parsons and is skilled in the art of flat patternmaking after studying under master patternmaker Suzy Furrer for 4 years. An avid storyteller, they directed, produced, and performed in two short films “Soft Trap” (2018) & “Pruning” (2019) which screened with accompanying immersive installations at LA’s Failed Films Festival for two consecutive years. In 2021, they joined the production and curatorial teams at Failed Films which led to a successful execution of the festival’s season 5 premiere in DTLA. Their work spans many mediums and they have actively shown fine textile art in various galleries every year for the last decade. They are currently splitting time between Los Angeles, CA and their small hometown in the Florida panhandle.
